“The will to win, the desire to succeed, the urge to reach your full potential… these are the keys that will unlock the door to personal excellence.”

Our mission, in Science, is to encourage aspiration and ambition, empower students to challenge themselves and each other and ensure everyone has the opportunity to excel.

There are many different definitions for the subject that we teach. The best which applies to all scientists is ‘knowledge attained through study or practice’. We endeavour to take students on a journey with us that allows them to develop their skills so that they can produce useful models of reality.

The majority of our subject content is abstract. This means that we can never really show the students what we are talking about. We cannot show them an atom, or open up a body and show it working in situ or take them on a journey into Space.

This abstractness is our biggest barrier to developing students understanding of the ideas in science. Misconceptions from the media and badly remembered half-truths only serve to compound the difficulties for some students.

“Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.”
Albert Einstein

We recognise that for students this represents their only chance at childhood and the responsibility this brings for us to deliver the best experience possible

We will, therefore, ensure that through supportive teaching students become resilient and reflective- always willing to try regardless of the challenges faced and able to look back on their learning journey and evaluate how they can improve.

Overall we will strive to allow students to learn more through science endeavour and investigation. This means providing students with an environment of exploration where their intrigue and curiosity about the world around us can be investigated in a safe and independent manner.
